A former U.S. baseball player has sparked speculation that he is undergoing skin-lightening treatment after appearing at an awards ceremony with dramatically paler skin than usual.
Sammy Sosa, who is from the Dominican Republic, was photographed at last week's Latin Grammy Awards with startlingly light skin.
The images were in stark contrast to his appearance at an event in June.

A spokeswoman for the 40-year-old blamed the difference in skin colour on lighting at the event and a 'rejuvenation process for his skin.'
Rebecca Polihronis said: 'He's not trying to be Michael Jackson.

'The picture is deceiving. I thought it was a body double. People who saw him in person did not react the same way. He can't believe it is such a big deal.
'He was surprised he came out looking so white. He said: "If you saw me in person, you would be surprised. When you see me in person, it is not going to seem like the picture."'

Notably, Mr Sosa's wife, Sonya, appears not to have been affected by any photographic overexposure in the two photographs.
Ms Polihronis added that Mr Sosa had told her he was using a moisturising treatment on his skin at night.
'He has always been concerned with the way he looks,' she said. 'Probably just bad timing going to an awards show.'
